Lecture Course
Algebraic Geometry I

Winter semester 21/22

  • Date:  Monday, 8:30 - 10:30 and Thursday, 12:30 - 14:30
  • Place:  25.22-03.73
  • Start:  Thursday, October 14
  • Speaker: Prof. Dr. Stefan Schröer
  • Assistent: Fabian Korthauer

The course is tought in English, and aimed at motivated master students who
seek  to specialize in the area of algebraic geometry. It may also be interesting for doctoral students, in particular members of the GRK 2240, who want to gain a thorough understanding of this research area. I plan to deliver lectures in presence, and also record a podcast and take blackboard photos. The digital material will be made available to course members via the learning platform ILIAS. GRK members that are non-HHU may request a HHU-ID as "Externe Mitarbeiter in Forschungsgruppen", in order to gain access to ILIAS. Fill out the form and send it to me.

Content:  This lecture course  in master studies is the first part of sequence of three. Participants should be familiar with algebra, basic algebraic geometry, and commutative algebra, as tought by my in past three semesters. Here we shall start from the notation of schemes, learn their basic properties, develop the theory of quasicoherent sheaves and  cohomology, and enter the world of algebraic curves.

Literature:
R. Hartshorne: Algebraic geometry
D. Mumford: The red book of varieties and schemes
Q. Liu: Algebraic geometry and arithmetic curves
A. Grothendieck, J. Dieudonné: Éléments de géométrie algébrique I
U. Görtz, T. Wedhorn: Algebraic geometry I

Exercise sheets:    Sheet 1, Sheet 2, Sheet 3, Sheet 4, Sheet 5, Sheet 6, Sheet 7, Sheet 8, Sheet 9, Sheet 10, Sheet 11

We encourage you to discuss and solve the exercise sheets in working groups. Hand-ins, however, must be individual and handwritten.
