Research Interests

My research activities are directed towards the study of infinite groups with a view toward number theory. For instance, I am interested in arithmetic groups and p-adic Lie groups. Other problems that I work on concern more general profinite groups. These occur rather naturally as Galois groups of infinite field extensions.

Here is my list of publications. Presently, I serve on the editorial board of the Archiv der Mathematik. I am one of eight principal investigators running the DFG-Research Training Group GRK 2240. In September 2018 we run a Workshop Zeta functions of groups and dynamical systems.

Locally, I organise an Advanced Seminar on Group Theory and, with my colleagues, the Oberseminar Algebra und Geometrie. During the winter semester I am on sabbatical; Benno Kuckuck supervises the Proseminar on Lineare Algebra.
